  15. I have had a Digicom Connections 14.4 DF connection modem for about a year. 
  16. The modem is absolutely terrific when I use Telix and Q-Modem under DOS, but 
  17. under Windows, well, ... it sucks BIG TIME!

  19. Here's the story, maybe someone out there has run across it before.

  21. My 486-33 computer has 8-Mb RAM and 2 serial(COM1, COM2) and one parallel 
  22. (LPT-1) port, Windows for Worksgroups 3.11, and a Soundblaster-16 with CD. I 
  23. won't bore you with the other details but everything was installed using the 
  24. default irqs and addresses. The Digicom is on Com-4 with default jumper 
  25. settings.  (details supplied upon request)

  27. Here goes ... When Windows is started the Digicom refuses to respond unless I 
  28. restart the software (Telix, Q-Modem, Trumpet, Windows-Terminal, WinFAX, Ring 
  29. Central) several times. Sometimes it doesn't work until I exit Windows, or 
  30. turn the power off.

  32. Once the Dicicom starts to work, everything is simply ducky. I can switch from 
  33.  data to fax software NO PROBLEM. It's just the initial startup that drives me 
  34. crazy. Digicom Tech Support suggested I change the modem (from irq-3) to 
  35. irq-5, but this seems to clash with my Soundblaster and the computer locks up 
  36. with this setting.

  38. I've used and installed ATi and US-Robotics internal modems on this PC and 
  39. they all have worked right out of the box, but this one ... well,  don't get 
  40. me started. Oops too late! Sorry for the excess bandwidth. HEP me, HEP me 
  41. pledz. I'm looking at installing Linux, and at this rate a new (non-Digicom) 
  42. is the only way.
