- Howdey all and Happy New Year,
-
- Here is one more note for the Digicom Bashing List.
-
- I have had a Digicom Connections 14.4 DF connection modem for about a year.
- The modem is absolutely terrific when I use Telix and Q-Modem under DOS, but
- under Windows, well, ... it sucks BIG TIME!
-
- Here's the story, maybe someone out there has run across it before.
-
- My 486-33 computer has 8-Mb RAM and 2 serial(COM1, COM2) and one parallel
- (LPT-1) port, Windows for Worksgroups 3.11, and a Soundblaster-16 with CD. I
- won't bore you with the other details but everything was installed using the
- default irqs and addresses. The Digicom is on Com-4 with default jumper
- settings. (details supplied upon request)
-
- Here goes ... When Windows is started the Digicom refuses to respond unless I
- restart the software (Telix, Q-Modem, Trumpet, Windows-Terminal, WinFAX, Ring
- Central) several times. Sometimes it doesn't work until I exit Windows, or
- turn the power off.
-
- Once the Dicicom starts to work, everything is simply ducky. I can switch from
- data to fax software NO PROBLEM. It's just the initial startup that drives me
- crazy. Digicom Tech Support suggested I change the modem (from irq-3) to
- irq-5, but this seems to clash with my Soundblaster and the computer locks up
- with this setting.
-
- I've used and installed ATi and US-Robotics internal modems on this PC and
- they all have worked right out of the box, but this one ... well, don't get
- me started. Oops too late! Sorry for the excess bandwidth. HEP me, HEP me
- pledz. I'm looking at installing Linux, and at this rate a new (non-Digicom)
- is the only way.
-
- If you have anything to add or suggest I can be reached at this address or
